Coach Code of Conduct
Piranhas Coach Code of Conduct - Summer 2023
As a Piranhas Coach, I agree to follow the following:
Administrative Procedures
- The Chain of Communication:
- As head coach, Mandi is the primary point of contact for all scheduling changes, parent and staff communications and concerns, and directly oversees all Piranhas program activities. Personnel issues or problems with parents or swimmers need to be communicated to the head coach and escalated to Maegan, the aquatic supervisor, as necessary (depending on the severity of the situation).
- I, as a Piranhas Coach, agree to follow this chain of communication and inform parents of this same procedure for communication as issues arise.
- I will adequately and accurately take attendance at practices daily. I will notate any discrepancies and communicate them to the appropriate parties.
- I will not let swimmers into a practice other than that which they are registered for without expressed clearance communicated by Mandi or Maegan. I will take attendance before swimmers get in the pool and send swimmers whose parents have sent them to attend the wrong practice to the aquatic office, where an administrator will confirm their enrollment and contact the family regarding the attendance policy.
- I understand that if program administrators find discrepancies in practice attendance when audited, I will be subject to disciplinary action.
- I will uphold the necessary boundaries between participants and staff.
- I am aware practices will be observed on an ongoing basis throughout the summer. I will be receptive to feedback and adjust my coaching as necessary according to feedback that is given.
- I will communicate with other staff members, parents, and participants respectfully.
- I understand the Plano Piranhas Team Relay Policy.
- I will be in uniform while on shift. I understand I must wear a Piranhas shirt at all practices, meets, and events where I represent the team. I will be prepared with my instructor suit at all practices so I can demonstrate skills and work with swimmers in the water as necessary.
- I am committed to attending all shifts as scheduled.
- I understand that my previously submitted availability/coaching commitment is binding and that changes to this must be communicated appropriately. If I require coverage for practices, I will notify the appropriate parties and arrange a substitute. I understand I am responsible for my shift until it is unassigned from my schedule.
Practice Expectations
- I will promote a team environment that emphasizes learning first, encouraging all swimmers along their swim journey.
- I will co-coach collaboratively and effectively at daily practices. I will be actively engaged physically and mentally while practices are in session.
- I have read and understand the practice expectations for the technical and endurance requirements for each skill group and will write workouts that are within these expectations. I will be open to collaboration with other coaches regarding the content of daily practices.
- I will give ongoing technical corrections and feedback to swimmers during practices.
- I will not allow parents to coach swimmers during practices.
- I will enforce that all parents should be on the bleachers or benches if they would like to observe practices. I will inform them that I am unable to answer questions during practice times, as my full attention will be focused on the swimmers in the water. I will refer them to the aquatic office or front desk for assistance as necessary.
- I understand that parent communication should be limited to the breaks between practices and that I am not to have extended conversations with parents or other staff members on deck during practice times.
